What Is the Episcopal Church?
We are a branch of Christianity attempting to live into being a “Middle Path” by maintaining the rich liturgical tradition of Catholicism while also embracing some of the reforms of progressive Protestantism. Our slogan, “God loves you, no exceptions,” reflects our core belief that all human beings are created in the image of God and deserve to have their dignity respected. We see diversity of all kinds—including race, nationality, sexuality, and gender—as reflections of a vast and diverse Creator, worthy of honor and celebration.
Other positions include the belief that the universe is the creation of an eternal, loving God. The best way we have of knowing who God is is through God’s incarnation as Jesus of Nazareth. God is active in human lives today in the form of the Holy Spirit, and we encounter God’s transcendent grace through the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
This, of course, just scratches the surface of who we are. There is room in the Episcopal Church and at our parish for your questions, your doubts, and even your respectful disagreements. Faith is not a destination we arrive at once and for all, but a lifelong journey of seeking God together. Whether you have been part of the Church your entire life, are returning after many years away, or are simply curious about Christianity, you are welcome to join us as we worship, serve our neighbors, and grow together in the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
